LindseyLoveIntriguecoverAbout the Book:

Fifteen-year-old Lindsey Morgan Brooks is still considered the new kid in the small town of Emit, Michigan. Both of her parents are lawyers, but her father has built his reputation prosecuting some of the worst criminals in New York and Chicago. Now, as a high school junior, she is trying to choose her own path.

Lindsey feels the demands and pressure from school, gymnastics, and her parents as she battles insecurities to build friendships while steering clear of the many land mines in high school-such as the group of popular girls she has dubbed the "Fab Five" Busy with activities and consumed with thoughts of her secret crush, Chris, she takes little notice of what's happening around her.

She gets a flat tire, gets caught with the lights-out and starts receiving strange text messages-things she assumes are just high school pranks gone too far. Her father wants her to be able to handle herself, so she should be able to handle this.

But while she steals a glimpse at Chris, who is watching her?

EXCERPT

Chapter 16
I start down the hall leading to the main door out to the parking lot when I feel my phone buzz. I bet it’s Mom checking on me for my first solo drive home. Wonder how long I’m going to get a check-in for every trip.

6:16 p.m. Don’t tell anyone about this text.

Huh? Who sent this? Another new number. Random. I walk outside to the student lot. There are only a few cars left, as most of the sports teams finished with practice at five thirty or so. As I get closer to my new car, I feel a rush of excitement. I just love having my own car.
Although it is already pretty dark, I think I see that my right front tire is flat. In the low light, at first, I’m not sure. But as I get closer, that awful possibility becomes a certainty.
Dad is going to kill me.
How could this happen? Great! I have a car one day, and now Dad is going to take it away. What should I do? Still holding my phone, I feel it buzz again. What now?

6:19 p.m. Guess Who? Keep this a secret. Don’t tell anyone.

I spin around to see if someone is watching me. I don’t see anyone but a couple of guys leaving practice. What does that mean? I scan the student parking lot, the football stadium, the entire campus. As I’m trying to process all this, I hear someone nearby and jump.
“Hey, Lindsey.” I turn around to see Kevin walking up. I breathe a big sigh of relief.
“Hi, Kevin.” Great. My non-breakup buddy is here, and I’m stranded with a flat tire.
“Is this the new car?”
“Yeah,” I say, gesturing to my shiny new prize.
“Awesome! Do you … need help driving it?” he asks, half laughing in what I think is a flirty tone.
“I seem to have a flat,” I say, pointing to the tire.
“Are you kidding?” he asks, walking around to the front of the car to see it. “How did that happen?” he asks.
“I have no idea; I just came out of practice and … this.” I want to throw up.
“Okay, well, I can change it for you.”
“Oh, I don’t want to put you out. And honestly my dad is weird about stuff like this and probably will want the dealership to change it. I can just call my parents,” I stammer as I start to pull up my home number on my cell.
“Lindsey. Seriously … if you don’t want me to change it, I’ll at least take you home. I’m not leaving you out here in the dark. Come on. It’s no problem,” and he gestures for me to walk toward his car.
“You sure?”
“Absolutely; come on. That’s so weird.”
“Right!”
