The Last Orphans by N.W. Harris Book Blast and Giveaway :)

The Last Orphans by N.W. Harris
Genre: YA, post-apocalyptic
Publication: October 9th, 2014 by Clean Teen Publishing

One horrifying day will change the life of sixteen-year-old Shane Tucker and every other kid in the world.

In a span of mere hours, the entire adult population is decimated, leaving their children behind to fend for themselves and deal with the horrific aftermath of the freak occurrence. As one of the newly made elders in his small town, Shane finds himself taking on the role of caretaker for a large group of juvenile survivors. One who just happens to be Kelly Douglas—an out-of-his-league classmate—who, on any other day, would have never given Shane a second glance.

Together, they begin their quest to find out why all of the adults were slaughtered. What they find is even more horrifying than anything they could have expected—the annihilation of the adults was only the beginning. Shane and his friends are not the unlucky survivors left to inherit this new, messed-up planet. No, they are its next victims. There is an unknown power out there, and it won’t stop until every person in the world is dead.

A spine-tingling adventure that will have you gasping for breath all the way until the last page, The Last Orphans is the first book in an all-new apocalyptic series.

Tell us about your day job.
In my day job, I’m a high school Technology Education teacher. Which means I do nothing with writing, except run a writer’s club once a month or so. I teach 9-12 graders practical physics (which sounds like an oxymoron, but itsn’t really), engineering, robotics, work skills, 3D modeling, architecture, drafting, and computer stuff. Depending on the year and what classes I have, anyway. I also run a gardening club and we play in the dirt sometimes. J

Which writers inspire you?
There are so many! Shakespeare and Austen are always at the top of my list. Tolkien is up there too. In the YA/MG world, I love the way that Lisa Ann Sandell’s words just flow, and I love Rick Riordan’s imagination. And…well, let’s just stop there. I love so many!

What is your writing process like?
My writing process is in flux. I am making “office” hours for myself after work, but in a general sense, I keep a writing journal with me all the time. I write notes to myself about things I’m working on or thinking about. When I have enough of an idea that I feel like I can start writing, I try to make sure and sit down and write out the main points. It’s a really basic outline that I go back and add to until its fully fleshed out. But I’m not married to it. If I write and end up somewhere else, I just adapt the outline to work. When I finish a draft, I go through and the first things I do for edits is a search through the document for words I know I use too many (that, just, etc) and then I sit down and try to read it through, looking for mistakes. Once I’ve got it as good as I think it can be, I send it to critters and see what they say. Then I start again!

What are you reading right now?
Paper Valentine by Brenna Yovanoff

Do you have an author crush?
Neil Gaiman.

Quick questions:
Physical books or eBooks?
Physical Books, though I love my ereader too.
Coke or Pepsi?
Coke! Really, root beer, cause I don’t drink caffeine anymore.
Twitter or Facebook?
Both for different things? I like the immediate gratification of Twitter, but I like FB too!
Song you can’t get out of your head right now?
Well, I was doing fine until you asked that. Now Steampunk Revolution by Abney Park is back in my brain. Grrrr.
Sweet or salty?
Sweet.
Coffee or tea?
TEA.
Write on computer or notebook paper?
Blank. Even though I can’t write in a straight line.

I’m excited to welcome you to the release event for No Substitute for Mistakes by Carolyn J. Rose. This is the fifth book in the Subbing isn’t for Sissies series and is now available for sale! This is a cozy mystery series and the first three books are only .99 cents!

About the Book:
When substitute teacher Barbara Reed agrees to fill in for an instructor at a juvenile detention facility, she fears it’s a huge mistake. The job is stressful and confining. But Barb needs a paycheck, and a looming teachers’ walkout could eliminate regular subbing opportunities in Reckless River , Washington .

On her first day “behind bars,” Barb recognizes one young offender. When he claims he’s innocent, she sets out to investigate his crime—stealing a pedigreed cat. Her drug cop boyfriend urges caution, but Barb once had a run-in with the cat’s wealthy owner and thinks the kid was set up.

Meanwhile, someone is ghostwriting a cat-bashing blog for Barb’s entitled dog Cheese Puff. Several cat lovers aren’t amused. They post comments vowing to track down the little mutt and make sure Cheese Puff never blogs, barks, or breathes again. While members of the Cheese Puff Care and Comfort Committee scramble to uncover the blogger, a duck with attitude makes fur and feathers fly.

Then things get worse. Disgruntled teachers hire Barb’s bombastic sister to lead their protest. Barb’s friend Paulette discovers her interior decorating assignment pays in drug money. And Barb learns the hard way that snooping can be hazardous to her health.

KCUP COFFEE STORAGE

***My Personal Review***

This is a super way to store your K-Cups for your Keurig and not take up extra space on the counter.  The storage container is strong enough to hold your Keurig machine with no problem, and the drawer slides in and out easily to allow you to grab the flavor you want.  It's great for separating flavors if you don't like digging through boxes to find them, but you can also just put them in there wherever you want so you can have a new flavor experience each time.  This specific drawer I received holds 36 K-Cups but they also have a double drawer which holds 72.  And it all fits right under your machine and makes it easy.  These are made of a nice clean material that is easy to clean, and the drawer gets plenty of air so your cups won't get damp or messy.  Absolutely a great gift for someone you know with a Keurig or as a wedding gift too!  But don't forget to grab one for yourself too :)

***My Personal Review***

I thought these were just for eggs when I got them, but after checking out everything they can be used for so much more!  My next attempt will be hamburgers in a perfectly round shape and then going to try some pancakes :)  These are really awesome, they are silicone so definitely sturdy and they really do make perfectly round eggs!  No more pushing the white part around separating the eggs - just let them cook and then take off the egg rings when they are solid enough to turn :)  I made them last night on my griddle and they were awesome!  Very cool would make a great gift for newlyweds!

Title: Tutankhamen Speaks (The Quest Books Companion to Sons of the Sphinx) | Author: Cheryl Carpinello | Publication Date: January, 2014 | Publisher: Beyond Today Educator | Pages: 80 | Recommended Age: 10+
Book Description: 2014 EVVY Finalist & Merit Award for Historical Fiction from Colorado Independent Publishers Assoc. Long ago the old texts of ancient Egypt alluded to scrolls in which King Tut spoke to the people from beyond the tomb. Many archeologists put this down to an incorrect translation of the ancient Egyptian texts. Others swore to the accuracy of the translation. None of that mattered because the scrolls in question could not be found. Scholars labeled it a hoax, something that never existed. It was ludicrous to imagine someone speaking from the grave. They were wrong on both accounts.

"Sons of the Sphinx is a time-travel thriller featuring a race against time with the stakes being King Tut being separated from his beloved Queen Ankhesenamun for all of eternity as well as the history books forever portraying King Tut's family as traitors to the people of Egypt. I recommend this exciting story to children ages 11 and older who enjoy reading stories about ancient Egypt or who are just looking for their next great adventure." ~ Renee @ Mother Daughter Book Reviews

***My Personal Review***

Probiotics are an awesome way to help your body regain digestional control and overall health.  They can help you stop infections - especially yeast infections that can easily occur after being on antibiotics.  Most people don't realize that antibiotics take both the good AND bad bacteria out of their bodies, leaving them even more susceptible to another infection or worse.  But by taking probiotics you can help stop this cycle and replace those good bacteria that help fight off infections.  Diabetics are infamous for getting yeast infections and not healing well - I have it and probiotics have made a HUGE difference in my health!  I highly recommend everyone take this, I am even going to start giving my 9 year old probiotics to help her digestion system.  They help with inflammatory diseases like IBS, Crohns and many more.  This specific probiotic is a superstrain and has 7.5 billion CFU in each capsule.  The recommended dosage is 3 capsules per day (6 if you are coming off antibiotics) but I started out slow with 1 capsule and I am slowly going up as needed.  Some people might respond more quickly with less than others.  But I don't think there is one person who could not benefit from taking a probiotic.  It can stop stomach problems and some people even believe it can keep you from getting a bad strain of any stomach bug.  It's worth a shot!  Plus this product is made from veggie capsules, is vegan, gluten-free, no chemicals and no soy or nuts.  Very very healthy probiotics!
