The Shadows of Paradise City by Brad Allen Hoover Book Blast and Giveaway!

 Are you a shadow?

#ShadowsOfParadise

The Shadows of Paradise City follows fifteen-year-old Benjamin as his post-high-school-dropout world unfurls, chronicling his time as a graveyard dishwasher at the campy International CafĂ©, his time at the library where he pursues an education and prepares for the high school proficiency exam with eighteen-year-old college dropout Bayer Eitenne’s help, and his time as an unwitting drug runner for a shady cafe patron.

Things go bad the night before the exam when Benjamin is robbed of a drug delivery he has stuffed into his pants.

Johnson, Benjamin’s drug dealing boss, pursues the thieves on a maniacal quest to get the drugs back, dragging Benjamin along with him. As his world closes in around him and the stakes increase, Benjamin must come up with a plan to escape this mess, which threatens not only his future but his life as well.

The Shadows of Paradise City humorously explores the nature of education and friendship, but more importantly, chronicles the significant and often ironic events and people who shape our lives.

-Praise for The Shadows of Paradise City

"Rich in atmosphere and ideas, The Shadows of Paradise City thoughtfully explores the notion that sometimes our best education happens when we leave the classroom and open our eyes to what the world has to offer.  I rooted for Benjamin through every lesson."

TERRANCE GIRAFFE EBOOK AMAZON

***My Personal Review***

I thought when I saw this come up for review that it would make an awesome book for my daughter :)  She has Williams syndrome and 7 years old.  She cannot read yet however she loves to tell the story through pictures.  I thought that when she gets a little older the fact that she will have a book with her name in it would just be amazing to her :)  All I had to do was fill out a form with her name and details and the ebook arrived a short time later.  Very quick delivery and a totally awesome product!

This was the cover and it literally PUTS her as the main character in the story :)  I loved it!  Even though right now she doesn't realize it one day she will be able to.  Most kids would be amazed and think it was magical that their name and where they live are part of the story.  This book struck a chord with me in a very special way after reading it because individuals with Williams syndrome are JUST like Terrance the Giraffe's "personalized best friend" in the book.  The friend helps make Terrance feel good about himself and that he is perfect just the way he was made.  This is exactly what Williams syndrome is - these kids are so empathetic and want to help everyone.  So it turned out to be the PERFECT book to personalize for my daughter because she embodies everything the best friend is in the book :)  I loved the illustrations, they were adorable and bright and cheerful!

The other great thing about this book is that you get to write a personalized special message to the child on the dedication page :)  It truly makes them feel wonderful and I wrote something that I knew when my daughter grows up and understands that she will realize how much I love her :)  And you can write anything!  This is the perfect gift for new babies, birthday gifts, Christmas gifts - and it can be from friends, parents, grandparents.  I thought a great idea would be to help older siblings "acclimate" to a new baby's arrival by personalizing a book for each of the older siblings and have it be from the new baby!  They would feel special and they would feel more a part of the addition to the family :)

The ebook edition is only $8.95 and it will come in pdf format.  However you can purchase the actual personalized book for $24.95.  I was given an ebook for this review and it is great because my daughter can use it on her iPad.  Plus they have lots of books to choose from, click the above link to go and check them all out!  From Sesame Street to ballerinas and princesses as well as christian books you can find whatever you want :)

Does the rabbit in the borrow know?
Does the beaver in the lodge know?
    Maybe the fawn's mother knows?
Or can Susanne the squirrel help him?
Do your kids love to listen to stories about the habitat and environment of different kinds of animals?
Do your children like beautiful picture books?
Where is my home? is a sweet children's book written especially for you and your aged 2- 6 children with 18 colorful illustrations.
The story is suitable as a read aloud book for preschoolers or a self-read book for beginner readers.

***My Personal Review***

This is the cutest book!  My daughter is 7 so I thought this would be great to read with her and share together :)  She loved it - Terry with his freckles and red hair caught her attention because mommy has freckles and red hair!  And she loved the illustrations, they were gorgeous!  She is developmentally delayed so this is the kind of book she is able to read with little help because the illustrations help her tell the story.  And the illustrations almost jump right off the page they look like they were created in 3D!

So I started it and then let her try to figure out what was going on.  She did really good, and she loved all the animals that Terry met throughout his journey.  When I would tell her "Terry tried the flower that the beaver gave him to eat" - she would go ewwww LOL.  It was a very interactive book for her and we thoroughly enjoyed reading it together :)  The storyline was very easy to follow for kids of any age, and it is a GREAT book for readers who are just beginning.  I would highly recommend this and the rest of the series - not only does it teach children they should not wander from home but it also teaches them to live in harmony with nature and appreciate what you have :)

Origin_of_Angels_eBook5 (1)

As the first male Elemental, Travis is a wanted man. Women fawn all over him, both fae and Elemental alike, but he only has one female on is mind—the woman who captured his heart when he was sure he’d lost it. Travis is not only determined to find her, he’s willing to go through his meddling sister, Ralya, to do it. He doesn’t care if she’s queen of the fae, if war is brewing, or if there is a price on his head. He needs to find his mystery woman before it’s too late—before he loses her to the Order or worse, to the evil Valen, who has made a bargain of his own to win back his kingdom.

Emily will do anything it takes to save her son from the Order, no matter the cost. Her heart yearns for the man who gifted her with the only joy she has in her dreary world, yet the odds she will ever see Travis again are slim to none. Emily has a single desire: to raise her child. Love is beyond her reach, or so she thinks. As evil draws near, Emily must guard her heart or lose her soul to the fae who wants her to fulfill his wicked purposes.

Will Travis find Emily before she gives up, or will she fall into the hands of his enemy and be forever out of his reach? In this gripping sequel to Elemental Enmity, the stakes for control of Earth have been raised. Evil has taken hold of the mortal realm and won’t relinquish it easily. The forces of Elemental and fae must unite against the dark court if they have any chance at all of overcoming the gloom overtaking the human realm.

Christie Rich  About the author: I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day, a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I enjoy family time with my husband and two children. My family and I live in a quiet community in Northern Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

Breaker by Emma Raveling Cover Reveal :)

CoverReveal_July31 (1)
This is the cover reveal for Breaker by Emma Raveling, the fourth book in the Ondine Quartet, an upper Young Adult Urban Fantasy series.

Breaker

War. Prophecy. Freedom.

She fought for herself. She fought for friendship and love. Now, Kendra Irisavie fights for the survival of her world.

War rages on, leaving no one untouched. Destruction rips through elemental communities and terror flourishes in its wake. Suspicion soars, order fractures, and loyalties crumble despite Kendra’s desperate attempts to protect everyone she holds dear.

When an organized Aquidae army launches a series of merciless assaults, Kendra and her friends set out to end the bloodshed once and for all. With the fate of elementals hanging in balance, the Shadow and sondaleur hunt each other down in a brutal match of cunning and will.

Kendra has trained for this her entire life. But in a ravaged world where trust is scarce and no life is sacred, she soon realizes her battle may be against an invincible enemy and that her darkest days lie ahead.

Twists and turns shape her harrowing odyssey, leading to a stunning climax that challenges everything she believes in.

Torn between destiny and autonomy, Kendra must finally decide whether the cost of freedom is too high.

Heartbreaking decisions, turbulent alliances, and shattering revelations collide in Breaker, the
explosive conclusion to the Ondine Quartet.

Tell us about the covers in this series.

The main novels of the Ondine Quartet (Whirl, Billow,Crest, Breaker) have conceptual covers. Each cover’s imagery captures a particular theme or motif in the book, and the coloring conveys a sense of the story’s mood and emotional arc.

The shorter works/novellas in the series (Ondine,Chevalier, and Warrior Prince) are essentially character portraits and are told through the eyes of different characters in the series. Those covers use models.

The goal for Breaker’s cover was to visually convey high stakes, explosive energy, and a brilliant, sharp intensity. This is the epic finale to the series and everything that has happened in previous books has led to this moment.

Out of all the covers in the series, this one took the most amount of work. My designer and I went back and forth multiple times, going through several drastically different versions before finally arriving at the right
imagery and coloring.

How does it feel to end a series?

It’s bittersweet. A part of me is thrilled to share the end of Kendra’s journey with readers. I’ve had the entire series planned since the very beginning so finally releasing what’s been in my head is a relief.

But the process of writing this final book has been a highly emotional one. There’s a personal attachment to the work itself. I’ve spent countless hours thinking and living with these characters and with this world over the past four years. It’s difficult to bring not only Kendra’s story, but my journey with her story,to an end.

A few easy questions:

Top 3 books?

Only 3?? Argh! There are so many books I love for different reasons and my list of favorites is always changing, depending on what’s going on in my life. Right now, if I had to name three, they’d be:

1. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

3. And of course, the Harry Potter series

Top 5 movies?

1. Aviator

2. Mulholland Drive

3. The Matrix

4. The Breakfast Club

5. Okay, I couldn’t just pick five. So the last one is a tie between The Usual Suspects, Reservoir Dogs, Star Wars (ep. 4-6), and Catch Me If You Can.

Top 5 places in the world you enjoy visiting?
1.New York City
2.Tokyo
3.Paris
4.Kauai Island (Hawaii)
5.Berlin

Top 5 foods?
1.Fresh basil pesto – I’ll add this on anything
2.Sashimi (Japanese-style raw fish)
3.Dark chocolate
4.Jamón ibérico(Spanish ham)
5.And my terrible guilty pleasure: pizza

The Buzz About the Books

Book 1: "Power Play: Hero’s Sword (Vol. 1) features a relatable main character, fast-paced action, devious enemies, and an exciting plot that will absolutely capture the intended audience’s imagination. I think (and my daughter fully agrees!) that M.E. Sutton has hit on a winning series. I highly recommend Power Play: Hero’s Sword to all tweens, but to reluctant readers in particular, due to the ease of language, the video game setting, and the fast pace and physical length of the book at 64 pages." ~ Renee @ Mother Daughter Book Reviews
Book 1: "This is a fantastic read to inspire kids against giving up as well as keep their imaginations going because I totally see my son imagining this happening to him as he runs through the house with his sword (could be anything from wrapping paper roll to a stick) noises like he is in a sword fight. I can't wait to finish reading it with him & continuing the series." ~ Cassandra Lost in Books
Book 1: "This is a quick and fun read. The language is simple, so it is perfect for the intended audience of a middle grade child. It is full of action and I think kids will love the concept of falling into their favorite video game and living out the fantasy. "~ Bookworm Lisa
Book 2: "This second installment is even better than the first. The storyline has more depth, and more imagery to go along with this tale of adventure, drama, and even a little bit of fairy tale romance. I became more fascinated by the main cast of characters, cementing my interest in this awesome series. The writing style is spot-on for a middle grade adventure, and there is enough action, suspense, and mystery to keep the reader flipping the pages to find out what happens next. I highly recommend this series to fans of middle grade fantasy and video games. I definitely look forward to reading more by this author. " ~ Toni @ My Book Addiction
Book 2: "This is such a fun series! My ten year old and I thoroughly enjoyed reading these together. I think it’s really special when you can find something worthwhile to read together. " ~ Brooke Blogs
Book 2: "I think many middle grade kids will enjoy reading about a kid their age falling into their favorite video game and living out the fantasy. It is perfect for kids who enjoy using their imaginations to escape the real world at times (and better to read about video games than to spend all day playing them!)" ~ Susan @ Mom Loves 2 Read

Using her SoulFire to defeat the monsters means accepting her destiny.
Ben Foster is a detective investigating the murder of two students at Rena’s high school. Can she be involved? Her name is the last word his partner spoke before being swallowed by the darkness.
Can Rena and Petrov survive? Or will this lifetime end like so many have before?

SORM excerpt

Rena rolled her eyes as she increased the video game’s volume. “Have fun Brea,” she shouted over the racket, ignoring her sister and the news that the relative invasion had begun. She would never begrudge her mother’s time with her only sister, or the injection of testosterone in a house flooded with female hormones, but she didn’t have to like it. Her father and her uncle Ron were friends from way back, at least to their college days. Pretty soon it would be all fishing trips and barbeques.

“He’s been stuck with creepy Eugene all summer, but they’re here now, and he’s all ours!” Brea buzzed, almost quivering, and shot to her feet.

“No, he’s all yours, and Eugene’s not that creepy.” Rena ignored the rest of her sister’s words, slipping the headphones back into place.

“He’s gorgeous… dark wavy hair, big beautiful sapphire blue eyes.” She faked a swoon, once again landing on the bed, but quickly sitting back up. When Rena didn’t respond, Brea pulled the headphones away.

“You gotta see him! But, remember, I saw him first!” She dragged Rena to her feet.

The problem with Brea was that she never had a shortage of boyfriends, and another stupid jock was so not worth Rena’s time.

“Oh, you saw him first all right. Go for it; I’ve had my fill.” Rena tugged her hand from Brea’s clutch. “It’s very okay with me. Besides, I don’t want to deal with relatives or their friends, but you go ahead, have fun.” Rena’s hands found the middle of Brea’s back, prodding her toward the door. Guys were the last thing on Rena’s mind. She remembered the humiliation of being ditched. Her first and only date had left with Brea instead.

“Oh, honestly! Just come and meet him, then you can come back here to brood and hide. Besides, he’s already asked about y-o-u.” Brea crowed as she sucked in another breath. “Isn’t it driving you crazy? Knowing a strange boy has asked about you? Come on, you’re not still mad about Bobby?” Brea squeezed her eyes closed. “It’s not my fault he asked me to go out with him.”

Rena shook her head in disbelief. How could Brea not see how wrong that was? “Oh, no, not me, I’m not mad at all.” She reached down, stroking Random’s soft fur. “Gee-sus, Brea! He dumped me in the living room, and you left with him!” It had all been a ploy to get close to Brea. He was a creep-a-zoid from the outer reaches of Tamriel. Rena tried to imagine him as one of the goons on Skyrim.

Then, she stopped cold, almost dropping the game controller. “What do you mean he asked about me? Why would he think about me? I don’t know him.” Rena wanted to strangle Brea. Now it was going to drive her crazy.

“Come on Ree, say you’re not mad.” Brea fluttered her pretty blonde eyelashes. “Come on, I’d do it for you.” She pushed out her bottom lip in a pout, giving Rena her best imitation of puppy dog eyes.

Rena snorted a laugh, covering her mouth with her hands. “You’re delusional Brea.”

“Oh, come on, you know you have got to meet this guy! It could be your destiny!” Brea breathed with wonder as she wheedled. “Besides, Mom said to come get you, to introduce you to our company. Want me to go back and tell her you said no?” Her toe started to tap an annoying beat.

Rena squeezed her eyes closed. “Okay, all right, don’t get your panties in a bunch.” She eyed Brea, and thought, the sooner I get it over with the better. “Fine, I’ll come meet your Petrov whatever, but don’t say I didn’t do you any favors.” Rena heaved a sigh, dragging her feet as she followed her sister out of the room, Random close to her side.

Brea hurried ahead to the living room where the others waited. When Rena finally made her way down the hall, dog quivering at her side, Brea snatched up her hand.

“Ree, meet Petrov, Petrov, my sister Rena,” Brea gushed as she released Rena’s hand to grab Petrov’s.

Rena could only stand and stare. His eyes… His sapphire gaze faded to an icy blue as she became aware of his critical appraisal, and she felt like a bug on display.

She loves all types paranormal creatures from vampires, were- creatures, witches, ghosts, and other things that go bump in the night. She loves a good ghost story, so if you have one, share it with her. The scariest book she’s ever read is a toss up between Bram Stroker’s Dracula or Stephen King’s It (both gave her nightmares).

She is an animal lover as are her heroines and heroes (and no, that doesn’t include insects or spiders). She loves movies and listens to them while she writes, it doesn’t matter if they’re old or new, as long as they’re engaging. She enjoys all kinds of music, especially if it has a hard driving beat. You’ll find some on her favorite artists mentioned in the pages of her books. She writes Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Chillers/Thillers, Suspense from Modern Contemporary to New Adult and YA, from sweetly innocent to naughty romance. She tends to be a genre bender, mixing her genres to provide an unique read.

***My Personal Review***

This product has been spotlighted on the Dr Oz show and touted as a great weight loss product.  Xium makes many healthy products that are not riddled with fillers and caffeine to make you lose weight.  I noticed no side effects with this product after 2 weeks.  I work from home so I naturally sit all night and what is normal for most people when they are just sitting?  Eating.  Yep - I stress eat too so I have a double whammy :(   But this has definitely helped my hunger issues and reduced cravings for sweets, my huge weakness.  For me losing weight is extremely difficult because I have asthma and I am on steroid inhalers.  If you take one capsule a day this ONE bottle will last you 1 1/2 months for $9.32.  Can you find something that cheap that works well in the stores?

This product is also FDA certified and all natural and the capsules are vegetarian.  They are rapid release and each serving gives you 800 mg of goodness and weight control!  It contains antioxidants which are great for your body, and will help things other than just weight loss.  Xium makes some other great products as well like Raspberry Ketones, so please check out their website and all the healthy products they carry!  WebMD says that "Green coffee beans are coffee beans that have not yet been roasted. The roasting process of coffee beans reduces amounts of the chemical chlorogenic acid. Therefore, green coffee beans have a higher level of chlorogenic acid compared to regular, roasted coffee beans. Chlorogenic acid in green coffee is thought to have health benefits for heart disease, diabetes, weight loss, and others."  Since I have started taking these I have noticed a slight drop in my blood pressure which was getting high as well.  Honestly I can't say that I have noticed any bad side effects or problems at all with this product.  I truly believe that Dr Oz and the studies are right!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

***My Personal Review***

Love this product - I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and have had good results!  I feel better, have more energy and I have lost 6 pounds!!!  For me losing weight is extremely difficult because I have asthma and I am on steroid inhalers.  And I don't exercise as I should, but I just need something to help me along the way.  Dr Oz has called this "the #1 miracle in a bottle for weight loss".  I have to agree after just a few weeks of use!  It works, and as we all know there are SO many out there that say lose all this weight but they all have harmful side effects or leave you trembling from the caffeine content.  This product does not cause any of those, it is all natural and comes from a great tasting fruit - raspberries!  The past few years there has been an onslaught of new studies on "superfruits" like pomegranate and blueberries.  But this is one I had not heard of until I started doing product reviews.  Now I am so glad that I did, because if it keeps me going and losing weight it is worth it for me.  I am also a stress-eater, and I have noticed a marked decline in my "hunger" which is great.

This product is also FDA certified and all natural.  So no worrying about extra additives or fillers - it is all good!  The recommended dosage is 1000 mg per day which is 2 capsules.  If you take that recommended dose you would get 1 1/2 months from one bottle for just $9.32.  That is FAR less than the cheapest weight loss product you can find in a health store or pharmacy!  Xium makes some other great products as well like Garcinia Cambogia, so please check out their website and all the healthy products they carry!
