Welcome to my tour stop for the Zimmah Chronicles by Scott King! This is a middle grade fantasy series. The tour runs December 1-11with reviews, interviews, guest posts and excerpts. Check out the tour page for the full schedule.
Karim's parents are not getting along, he can see that clearly every day. But he doesn't want them to divorce and when he finds a Djinn who is up for some clever play after years of being held hostage, Karim seems to be in over his head. Suddenly Karim and his dog Lion are transported to a world of candy and there is a Cupcake Queen and a Brownie King who turn out to be his mom and dad although they do not recognize him. As he traverses the candy land, he has several run ins with the Djinn Zimmah and cannot figure out why Zimmah has put him in this situation. I love the way the author plays with the concept of parallel universes and characters in this novel. In the real world Karim's parents fought over cupcakes and brownies for his birthday, and the war between the King and Queen juxtaposes that in the fantasy world. I also love the way the reader is completely immersed in the fantasy world and it comes to life, it's like being in a real life game of CandyLand, only Karim, Lion and his parents are the players. But will it all turn out okay? Will his parents reunite before they destroy each other and the entire world including Karim's real world? This is a great read, I honestly cannot wait to start the next book in the series! I could not put this down!
Mermaids vs. Unicorns
Once again we find ourselves in a fantasy world with Karim and Zimmah the Djinn. Only this time it's not a candy land, it's a world where unicorns and mermaids are at war with each other. This time the warring factors are not Karim's parents, this novel is more about Zimmah and a girl he meets that is able to bring him down and he is trying to fight her. But now this new land and a new war with fantastical creatures could possibly bring Zimmah down but Whitney is more interested in saving her mother who is very ill and could die. Will Karim and Whitney be able to defeat the Djinn for good this time or to make him see how harmful his "wishes" can be? And will Whitney be able to save her mother in time? You have to read the book to find out! No spoilers :) Again in this book I love the way the author juxtaposes the situation with the Mermaids and Unicorns to parallel what is happening in Whitney's life with her mother. I love the way both of the books so far have shown that what we want may not always be what is best. Another great read from King, he has an amazing ability to transport the reader to the worlds he creates and make them part of the story. You won't be able to put it down.
Genie vs. Djinn
In the third installment in the Zimmah Chronicles we find that Zimmah the Genie is going to be freed by Whitney and Karim - however as usual it goes horribly awry and their wish does not come off as it should. Instead of freeing him, they turn him into a Genie with NO powers at all ... and to add to the horror they unleash the entire world of Djinn on themselves. So in this book the trio must travel to the capital of the Djinns and Genies to attempt to reverse the situation and save not only themselves and their world but also to restore Zimmah's powers. I really liked the way in this book we see Zimmah also has a father, but it is not a good relationship and in some ways it makes Zimmah a much more sympathetic character because we see his whole family turn against him. It's another magical ride through a fantastical world and it is very interesting to see the Djinns world up close and personal after the other 2 books. I thoroughly enjoyed all 3 books in this series and I am really hoping there is more to come because I love all the characters and the fantastical aspect :)

Zimmah the djinn isn't evil. He simply thinks the world would be more fun if everything was made of desserts. So when ten-year-old Karim Jacobs makes a wish to fix his parent's marriage it's not Zimmah's fault that he twists the wish. He couldn't help himself. Candypunk airships and cupcake castles are cool!
Of course Karim isn't happy about his wish going astray, specially when running into fantastical creatures like gummy-grizzly-bears and rock candy beasts; and although he desperately wants to go home, he finds himself in the middle of a war between the Cupcake Kingdom and Brownie Kingdom. With his parents lives in danger, its up to him to stop Zimmah and restore the world to normal.

Mermaids vs. Unicorns
Zimmah the wicked djinn thought he was so smart. He thought nothing could stop him, let alone a mere child. That was until he met Whitney, a devilish girl who used his own powers against him.
A wish gone wrong sends Zimmah, Whitney, and Karim to The Otherworld, a magical land where Mermaids and Unicorns are caught in an epic war. All Whitney wants is to save her sick mother, all Karim wants is to get home, and all Zimmah wants is revenge on the children who have tricked him.

Genie vs. Djinn
The chaotic magic of hundreds of djinn are destroying San Francisco. Dinosaurs. Butterfly volcanos. Buildings made of jello– If someone can wish it, it’s happening. Unable to access his own powers, Zimmah the former djinn, must rely on Karim and Whitney’s help.
Standing in their way is Alkema, Zimmah’s murderous father, an almost omnipotent ifrit who enjoys watching the suffering of others. If not stopped he will not only destroy the city, but plunge the entire world into total madness.
