Swoon Romance
My name is Tierra Owens, and I like to
kiss. A lot. It numbs the hollow ache in my chest and—for a few
minutes—makes me forget how truly alone I am. My mother is an
alcoholic. She hates me and insists I'm the reason she's not married
to my father, whom I have never met. My best friend, Kaylee, is the
only person who knows the real me. Everyone else sees what I want
them to: a happy, confident, popular girl who has the world at her
feet.
I am a fraud.
Relationships are forbidden. I avoid
them at all costs. Sex? Emotions? Those things make a person
vulnerable, and vulnerability always leads to heartbreak. When my
childhood crush, Mattie shows up at school my world tumbles off its
axis. The shell I surround myself with feels more like a pathetic
crutch than a protective barrier, and I find myself wanting things.
Daydreaming about what it would be like to have a boyfriend, a
relationship—love.
The sad fact is: I'll never have any of
those things. I am unworthy—trash. Which is why my mom abandoned
me.

Dane loves books, chocolate, reality television, her family, and All
Star Cheerleading. Not necessarily in that order! She writes
contemporary YA romance with cheerleaders. Yep. She writes what she
knows, and it’s her hope that her stories will not only take you on
a romantic journey that will warm your heart, but that you’ll find
a new respect for the sport of All Star Cheerleading you may not have
had before. She’s represented by Brittany Booker of the
Booker/Albert Agency, and has published a NA paranormal series under
her real name, Lisa Sanchez.
***AUTHOR INTERVIEW***
I would like to thank Elisa Dane for answering some questions for us about her and her writing :)
What inspired you to write your first book? I’d just finished reading Twilight and was swept away by the writing bug. My story idea wouldn’t go away, so I caved and the rest is history!
Do
you have a specific writing style? I’d say I lean toward angsty and
snarky. I like dark stories that tug at your heartstrings, and strong
female characters with attitude.
How
did you come up with the title? The title for Abandoned was easy. My
main character’s mother abandons her.
Is
there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp? You
bet! In reading about Tierra’s struggles, I’d love it if readers
came away with the sense that they’re never alone, and that it’s
okay to lean on friends.
How
much of the book is realistic? I think the majority of the book is
realistic. These days we see more and more dead-beat parents in the
media. Tierra’s situation is probably more common than any of us
want to believe.
Are
experiences based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Nope. This baby is pure fiction.
What
books have most influenced your life most? Oh goodness. That’s a
tough question! I’d have to go with J.R. Ward, Colleen Hoover, and
Penelope Douglas. Those girls have mad talent!
If
you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? You
mean, who would I want to mentor me? Coho all the way!
What
book are you reading now? I just finished Rock Chick Revolution by
Kristen Ashley. She’s amazing!
Are
there any new authors that have grasped your interest? I’m really
enjoying Kristin Miller’s work. She writes sweet romance, as well
as paranormal with wolves for Entangled.
What
are your current projects? I’m currently working on the third and
final book in my Fighting Chance trilogy.
Name
one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
I’ve had some wonderful support from the blogging community.
Bookish people are the best.
Do
you see writing as a career? You bet!
If
you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your
latest book? Nope. I absolutely adore Tierra and Mattie’s story.
Do
you recall how your interest in writing originated? I’ve loved to
both read and write ever since I was a child. My mom fostered that
love and I’m so thankful.
Can
you share a little of your current work with us?
Is
there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Who
is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about
their work?
