A Batter of Life and Death by Ellie Alexander Release Event with Giveaway :)

Today we are excited to announce the release of A Batter of Life and Death by Ellie Alexander! This is the second book in the Bakeshop Mystery series and is now available for sale!

Guest Post:

Welcome to Ashland, Oregon the home of the world famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival and home to the fictional family bakeshop Torte and pastry chef Juliet (Jules) Capshaw.

Torte is more than a bakeshop it’s a gathering place for neighbors and friends. Whether you’ve lived in Ashland for your entire life or are just passing through to catch a production of Shakespeare under the stars, at Torte everyone is family. Jules and her staff handcraft delectable cakes and baked goods and offer up a listening ear to everyone who walks through Torte’s front door. That makes it the perfect setting for murder. Sometimes the sweets at Torte are to die for—literally.

While Torte (and murder) may be fictional in A Batter of Life and Death, the town of Ashland is very real and oh so charming. The plaza downtown is a hub for artists, foodies, musicians and travelers from every corner of the globe. Spend an afternoon strolling through Lithia Park with its meandering paths, gorgeous fountains, hiking trails, and ancient trees. Stop for a pint at Oberon’s Tavern or an afternoon sweet at Mix, and then wander up to the bricks to catch a spectacular live show.

One of my favorite things about writing the Bakeshop Mystery series is introducing readers to Ashland and the surrounding areas. I hope that readers will enjoy getting a little glimpse into the world of the theater, Shakespeare, a family bakeshop, and Southern Oregon.

Happy reading and baking!

~Ellie Alexander

About the Book:

A Batter of Life and DeathWelcome to Torte--a small-town family bakeshop where the coffee is hot, the muffins are fresh, and the cakes are definitely to die for…

It's autumn in Ashland, Oregon--'tis the season for a spiced hot apple cider with a serving (or two) of Torte's famous peach cobbler. It's also the perfect time for Jules Capshaw to promote her family's beloved bake shop by competing in The Pastry Channel's reality show, Take the Cake. The prize is $25,000. But as Jules quickly learns, some people would kill for that kind of dough. Literally.

Then, just as Jules dusts off her Bavarian Chocolate Cake recipe and cinches up her apron, the corpse of a fellow contestant is discovered--death by buttercream. What began as a fun, tasteful televised adventure has morphed into something of a true-crime detective show for Jules and everybody else on set. Who could have killed Chef Marco, and why? Can Jules sift out the killer before someone else gets burned?

Make sure to check out book one, Meet Your Baker!

The Gryphon and His Thief by Karen Michelle Nutt Review :)

Review By Date: July 9th
Publication Date: December 2014
Genre: Paranormal Mystery/New Adult Romance
Word Count: 58,000
Formats Available: MOBI, ePub & PDF
Some Treasures are Priceless…

A long time ago, a Gryphon shifter’s duty was to guard and protect the people of the tribes, but Darrien Andros failed to keep his human wife safe from harm. Cursed for the crime, he must guard everything in the Museum of Cursed Antiquities forever, never to truly live and never to die. Centuries have passed, but when he encounters a thief, who uncannily resembles his dead wife, he is convinced he has a second chance.

Calli Angelis is hired to steal Hecate's Stone from the Museum, believing she would be returning it to its rightful owner. She never really trusted the person who hired her and now Darrien makes her doubt her motives, too. He also has her questioning the possibility of reincarnation when the attraction between them ignites into something she can no longer ignore.

As the two work together to unravel the mysteries behind the stone, it becomes apparent an old and dangerous enemy from Darrien’s past is determined to have history repeat itself.
Karen Michelle Nutt resides in California with her husband, three fascinating children, and houseful of demanding pets. Jack, her Chorkie, is her writing buddy and sits long hours with her at the computer.

When she’s not time traveling, fighting outlaws, or otherworldly creatures, she creates pre-made book covers to order at Gillian’s Book Covers, “Judge Your Book By Its Cover”. You can also check out her published cover art designs at Western Trail Blazer and Rebecca J. Vickery Publishing.

Whether your reading fancy is paranormal, historical or time travel, all her stories capture the rich array of emotions that accompany the most fabulous human phenomena—falling in love.

***My Personal Review***

This is a fantastic read for those who like a bit of the paranormal mixed in with their drama :) Darrien has been cursed to live as a Gryphon during the night time for the crime of not being able to save his wife Callista many years ago. So when Calli shows up at the Museum of Cursed Antiquities to steal an object, he stops her. But he sees her as HIS Callista even though she knows nothing of it. She has trouble believing the whole story but seeing as how she is stealing Hecate's Stone from the Museum she somehow begins to understand. And then they start to fall for each other and Calli starts to wonder if what she was sent to do is the right path for her to go down. With this book you also get a lot of back stories and history on both characters, and it really starts to become unforgettable once they get more involved and realize that someone or something is never going to let Darrien go, that his past will always be there to haunt him. It's a definite must read for lovers of paranormal romance :) I received a complimentary ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Natural Shoe Odor Eliminator Giveaway

***My Personal Review***

For those of us who like to wear our shoes without socks it can be a rather stinky affair after a few days in the heat.  I have tried baby powder and other sprays and nothing really gets rid of the smell.  Some people who have infections or other problems that make their feet smell without doing anything and even if they are clean will love this product for their shoes!  It makes them smell so fresh and clean, like you have never even worn them :)  Much better than sweat and stains.  Plus this is all natural and the lemon mint smell is amazing!  You can also use this for your socks to give them a little boost before washing :)  I still use baby powder in my shoes to help stop the sweat but I use this when I come home to give them a chance to air out and stop smelling while they sit.  This is a much better choice than washing your shoes and wearing them out :)  Give it a shot and see what you think!

This is a great book - it's simple but it's cute because it shows you all these different avatars that you can come across in the game that you might not have ever seen.  I know a young man who just LOVES Minecraft and he thinks this is an awesome book and he said he has actually seen a few but didn't know what they were :)  It gives you the Power, Build Rating, Fashion Rating, Popularity Levels too so you can tell what each avatar might possess that could harm or help you.  Definitely a must have for any Minecraft lover!  So pick up a copy of this and use it as a guide to help you through the game.

Return and Abide by Skye Malone Book Highlight and Giveaway!

Title: Return
AuthorSkye Malone
Series: Awakened Fate (Book Three)
Genre: Young Adult Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Wildflower Isle
Publication Date: October 6, 2014
Cover Designer: Karri Klawiter

For Chloe, the ocean was supposed to mean safety and for a time, it almost did. She overcame the Sylphaen’s drugs. She discovered an unforeseen attraction to Zeke, one that he shares for her. A life underwater seemed possible, until she learned that nothing was as it appeared.
After an unspeakable betrayal shattered everything she thought she knew about Zeke’s world, she and Zeke have fled the ocean for the one place Chloe never expected to want to go.

But the challenge of living as a mermaid over a thousand miles from the ocean isn’t the only problem facing her. Home has changed. Enemies are waiting, ones she never saw coming. Her little Kansas town is full of surprises.

Including Noah, the guy she left behind.

“…do it in Jeri’s old room.”

Earl’s words filtered through the cotton stuffing in my head, barely making sense.

“Yeah, well, seemed fitting.” He paused. “Listen, Richard, I called you as a courtesy, on account of how you said one got away from you yesterday. But it took me an hour after the girl collapsed to get the boy to finally conk out, and with that damn scum-sucker metabolism of theirs, you know I can’t promise either of ‘em will be down for long. You and your boys want any part of this, you better hurry up and get here.”

Alarm struggled through me, weighed down by an exhaustion that wanted to smother my mind back into sleep. Scum-sucker? He…

“Hang on,” Earl said as though interrupting someone. “One of them ain’t breathing the same as they were.”

My heart began to pound harder while I fought to open my eyes. Breathing? He sounded so far away. How could he hear anyone breathing?

Footsteps clunked on the hardwood floor. Light pierced the blackness around me as I managed to lift my eyelids. I was on the bed, facing the doorway. In the window seat, Zeke was slumped, his head resting on the wall. The room was dark around us, though the hall light was on.

Earl came to the door. In one hand, he held a phone to his ear, and at the sight of me, he made an angry noise.

“What’d I tell you? The girl’s awake.”

He dropped the phone onto the window seat as he strode toward me, and all my dull commands to my muscles couldn’t make my body move. Striding past me, he retrieved something from the dresser and then returned with a sports bottle in his hand.

I tried to pull away, but he just reached down and grabbed my head from behind, lifting it toward him. With his teeth, he popped open the top of the bottle and then shoved it into my mouth.

Bitter-tasting liquid flooded my throat. I choked, the drink spewing from my lips, but he just dropped the bottle and clamped an enormous hand over the lower half of my face.

“Swallow,” he ordered.

I stared up at him. His grip tightened on my hair, tugging at my scalp.

But when she receives a message that changes everything, Ina suddenly finds herself embroiled in a conspiracy more horrifying than she could have imagined. One that strikes at the heart of her kingdom, and one that could destroy her family once and for all.

~An Awakened Fate Novella which follows Return, Book Three of the Awakened Fate Series~
The guards took up positions beside me when I left the room and headed for the main hall.

I tried not to swear, knowing anyone who overheard would only use it as gossip about my current mental state.

But a slew of choice words presented themselves.

This wasn’t fair, I told the universe silently. Not even a little bit.

I glanced back to see Egan swimming down the hall toward me. With his silver scales, dark eyes, and hair so light it seemed like snow even though he was only a year older than me, he looked like a sculptor’s dream, and just as incredible as ever.

It only made me hate him a little bit more. Killing that damn flutter in my stomach would’ve been so much easier if he was ugly.

About the Author

I lived and was raised in the beautiful land and country of Zimbabwe, Africa (home will always be home). We relocated to Wanaque, New Jersey, USA, our new home and where our younger son, Frankie, took up his “American Dream”.

My husband George, sons Johnny, Elia and Frankie encouraged me to write my first children’s book titled My First Travel Book, which was inspired by Frankie (Captain Frankie). Given a wonderful opportunity, he graduated in his Masters degree in Aeronautical Science, and is successful in his career as a professional pilot. My favorite saying is: “Be Bold Be Brave”.

My dream is to be given the opportunity for my book to reach each and every less fortunate child who will have the opportunity to fantasy travels through our book to see our lovely world destinations, and to one day to give back and assist the needy in Africa and beyond, to keep giving care and love to the less fortunate. Whilst in Zimbabwe I was involved with many charitable organizations and groups where my greatest passion and love was with the primitive, simple people of Zimbabwe, Africa and will still continue to reach out to the many beautiful children of the world.

Now living in the USA, after having traveled some short and some long journeys, to get to our final destination, we realize how small this world really is, yet is also so big and so beautiful in each and every corner. Still so much is untouched by humans, which will hopefully remain sacred in many areas. We have to cherish every and all beautiful things that our planet earth has to offer to us.

***My Personal Review***

This is a very cute childrens book that brings new destinations and adventures to life.  The beginning is super cool, even the ebook has a place for you to write your child's name so you can print it out :)  My 8 year old daughter loves it.  I love the way the illustrations are real pictures of the world with cartoonish figures drawn on them :)  And all of them show the plane flying overhead, showing kids that they can go on adventures and find new fun :)  On the first page you see the captain with the airplane in the background and then you get to read his speech ... my daughter loves to pretend she is the captain and plays it all out!  The flags page is amazing, I absolutely love the vibrant colors and all set against the blue sky with clouds that is the background for the whole book.  I think my favorite part is the Northern Lights, I have always been fascinated by them and I love the image, it is just brought to life with the illustrations.  Each part is told and then it has a series of easy questions you can ask your children to see if they remember what they read.  And of course each one is a natural wonder of the world!  My daughter loves the Great Barrier Reef with all the "fishies" as she calls them.  But she loves to look at all the pics and tells me what each one is in her own way.  At the end Captain Frankie asks the kids if they can remember the Seven Wonders of the World :)

I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
